AI for the Struggling Sales Rep: Find the One Stage That's Actually Broken
"Struggling" rarely means everything is broken. It usually means one stage of the deal, repeated. Here's how to find it before another round of generic coaching.

"Struggling" gets used like it means everything is broken. Almost never true.
Most struggling reps are actually fine at three stages of the deal and consistently stuck at one.
Four places a deal breaks
Discovery that never gets past surface-level answers. Prospects who go quiet right after a strong first meeting.
Negotiations that drift instead of closing. Deals that "feel stalled" without a clear reason why.
Each one is a different problem wearing the same word.
Why "struggling" isn't a useful diagnosis
Told to a manager, "I'm struggling" gets answered with general advice — more activity, better scripts, more confidence. None of that fixes a specific broken stage.
A rep who's actually great at discovery and terrible at closing doesn't need more discovery training. They need to know that's not where the problem is.
Generic coaching treats every rep like they're bad at the same thing.
Find your actual stage
Look at the last quarter's deals, not the ones that still sting the most. Where do they consistently stop moving?
Same stage, over and over, across different prospects, different industries, different deal sizes — that's not bad luck. That's the actual location of the problem.
One stage, repeated, is a pattern. Different stages, occasionally, is normal variance.
Once you know the stage, the fix gets specific
"I struggle with sales" has no next action. "My deals stall after a strong first call because I don't have a real reason to reach back out" has an obvious one.
New reps hit this constantly in the first 90 days, because they haven't yet seen enough deals to know their own pattern. Struggling reps at any tenure have the same fix: find the pattern first, then practice the narrow thing.
The habit that actually surfaces the pattern
The pattern is invisible without a record of what happened at each stage, call by call — not a gut feeling about "not being good enough," but the actual place things keep stopping.
Sara's built for keeping that record without extra work: talk through a call right after it happens, and the pattern across a quarter becomes visible instead of a vague feeling you can't quite name.
Talk it through instead of guessing
If you can't yet say which stage is actually the problem, that's the first thing worth figuring out — before another round of generic advice aimed at the wrong part of the deal.

"Struggling" isn't a verdict on the whole job. It's usually one stage, repeated, waiting to be named.
